Novi
Sad, the capital of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina lies on the Danube.
Some of its parts date back to the 18th and 19th centuries and boast several
well-preserved old churches and other public buildings. The city also boasts
various interesting museums and art galleries. However, its undoubtedly
most important monumental complex is the Petrovaradin
Fortress on the right bank of the Danube. The first records
about a fortress at its present site date back to the Roman times. Records
show that is has been worked on the 13th century, while it obtained its
present appearance in the 18th century largely. |
