YUGOSLAVIA - Netherlands 1-6 (0-2)

Ivica Kralj looks back into his net

Rotterdam, Netherlands, June 25 - Yugoslav national football team finished the competition on the European Championship having been defeated by the host team Netherlands in the quarterfinals - 1-6 (0-2).

Patrick Kluivert's first came after Dennis Bergkamp put him through in the box with a fine floating ball. The former Ajax Amsterdam forward controlled the ball on the run with one touch and then fired past Ivica Kralj with his right foot.

Edgar Davids supplied the through ball for Kluivert's second, sending a looping pass over the Yugoslav defence. The former Ajax forward fired home with his first touch.

Kluivert completed his hat-trick with a close-range shot after Paul Bosvelt beat Dragan Strojkovic on the right. He added his fourth with Boudewijn Zenden supplying the final pass from the left.

Marc Overmars added another two before Yugoslavia scored an injury-time consolation goal from Savo Milosevic.

AFTER THE MATCH

"The Dutch played excellently but they had some luck. We had the first goal chance but unfortunately we didn't score it. What can I do? I have to pay them my compliments and congratulate them" (Vujadin Boskov, Yugoslavia's coach).

"We started to play very well until the first goal from Holland. Just before this first goal, Mijatovic had a great opportunity to score but van der Sar had a great save. And after the first goal from (Patrick) Kluivert, they started to play very, very well" (Dragan Stojkovic, Yugoslav player).

"It's a shame they scored six goals. Maybe we could have done a bit better, not to lose so many goals. But Holland didn't allow us to play any better." (Vladimir Jugovic, Yugoslav player).
