    1951

The first gramophone record in the city was recorded in the former garage of Radio Belgrade in Dorcol District. It was released by “Jugodisk”.

1954

The first artificial skating rink was opened on Tasmajdan.

1956

The first cinemascope (big screen) film was shown in Belgrade, titled Carmen Jones, in Kozara Theater.

In November 12th 1956, “Atelje 212”, the first avant-garde theater in Yugoslavia, was opened in the “Borba” publishing house building. It moved into a new building, made by the project of architect and director Bojan Stupica, in today’s 21 Lole Ribara St. on December 20th 1964.

1958

On July 7th 1958, engineer Zoran Manojlovic made the first TV camera.

On August 23rd 1958, the regular broadcast of TV program, which was included in the Yugoslav network the same year, began with the opening of the first TV studio in Belgrade.

1961

The GSP (Belgrade City Transport) motor pool received the first Leylands, out of the total of 160 buses of this type. Famous British buses transported Belgrade citizens until the mid-seventies, when they were replaced with the locally produced buses.

In 1961, the first Belgrade Light Music Festival, “Beogradsko Prolece”, was founded. The first big music stars are formed, record sales are growing and first musicals are being filmed.

In September 1961 Belgrade is the host of the Belgrade conference of the nonaligned nations, the largest assembly in the history of this town concerning the number of participants.

1964

Former highest building in New Belgrade was built - the public-political organizations building, now the 26-storey high Usce Building.

1966

The first “Gitarijada” concert was held on the Belgrade Fair and was marked by the performance of the groups “Siluete” and “Elipse”.

1967

The first BITEF - the international festival of modern theatrical tendencies was opened, which would, hosting numerous theatrical ensembles, enable Yugoslav viewers to get acquainted with the modern theatrical achievements. Artistic managers were Mira Trailovic and Jovan Cirilov.

1969

The first skyscraper in the center of the city was erected, “Beogradjanka” building, by the plans of the architect Branko Pesic.

1971

The “Gazela” Bridge and the highway going through Belgrade were built. 

On January 8th 1971 in the “Dom Sindikata” hall, the first FEST, the international festival of the award-winning films, was opened, and soon included in the major international film festivals.

On December 31st 1971 the color TV program was introduced and broadcast on the second channel of the Belgrade Television.

1973

On May 30th 1973 the finals of the biggest football team contest in Europe, the Champion’s Cup final - Ajax-Juventus (1:0) - was held.

1976

The building of “Sava Centar” by the plans of the architect Stojan Maksimovic commenced. The construction was finished a year later.

1978

The first around-the-clock grocery - the first supermarket in the city was opened in Banovo Brdo.

1995
