HANDBALL: Yugoslavia third in the world
|
Bronze medal for Yugoslavia: Kokir (white, Yugoslavia) |
Cairo, Egypt, June 15 - Yugoslavia won bronze medal on 16th Men's World Handball Championship winning Spain with a result 27:24 (12:14).
Success over Spanish team was made after great, equal and very exciting match, in which better concentration of Yugoslav team players was fully expressed.
During the match, the Spanish team was doing better. Playing an easy and speed match, they were leading. Yugoslav players contributed to that with a series of mistakes.
The turnover came up in the finish of the match. Kokir and Nikolic indicated the triumph with their goals, after which Nedeljko Jovanovic, the best player in the world, practically decided who is going to be the winner with his two master-piece goals.
Near Jovanovic, goalkeeper Dejan Peric, who maintained the result close to the Spanish with his successful interventions, contributed a lot to the psychic stability of the team.
This medal represents a great success, since it is known that Yugoslav team was not able to play training matches before the championship because of reasons which are not related to sports at all. Besides that Rastko Stefanovic wasn't able to play in the championship because of the injury, and trainer Zivkovic couldn't count in the match for the third place on Perunicic and captain Skrbic.
Sweden won the title of the world champion because they beated Russians in the finals with score 25:24.
