Pau, France, June 28 - In the third round of the group E of the 31st European Basketball Championship for Men, the Russian national basketball team defeated tonight in Pau, the Yugoslav national team 76-68 (36-31).
In the game which did not have any competition significance, the Yugoslav national team experienced the first defeat at the championship in France. Such an end could have been foreboded already in the first halftime when it was noticeable that in the Yugoslav team there was no desire and motive to win the great rival.

The Yugoslav players started very well and were leading in the 5th minute 8-0, whereas in the 9th it was 17-11, but the Russians made a series of 19-4 and acquired the advantage of 30-21.
The fact that the Yugoslav team was left without its first play-maker Sasa Obradovic worries more than the poor playing. He was very seriously injured at the tonight's game and according to the latest information, he already left for Berlin for the operation.
Aleksandar Djordjevic and Zeljko Rebraca did not even arrive at the Euro-Basket 99 because they were injured.
The only play-maker in the Yugoslav team left, Dragan Lukovski was also injured but he is expected to play in the first quarter-final game in Paris against Germany on July 1st.
Location: Hall in Pau. Attendance: 5,000.
