Yugoslavia - Czech Republic 3-1

Wiener Neustadt, Austria, Sep 7 - In the first game of the B group of the European Championship in Austria, the Yugoslav men's national volleyball team beat Czech Republic 3-1 (25-20, 25-11, 24-26, 25-22).

Before 400 mostly Yugoslav spectators living in Austria, Yugoslav men's national volleyball team successfully commenced the European Championship in Austria. The best in the Yugoslav team were Tanaskovic, brothers Grbic, Mester, Vujevic and Batez.

In the first set, after good serving of Vujevic and excellent blocks, the Yugoslav team took the lead at 16-15 to reach inaccessible 21-16.

The second set was the shortest, only 20 minutes. The Yugoslav team imposed its own rhythm and quickly won the set.

After a short relaxation in the third set which the Szechs won, Yugoslav coach Zoran Gajic substituted Batez for Miljkovic and Tanaskovic for Geric and thus refreshed the team. But the Czechs did not surrender but all they could do was to come close to 18-17. In the finish of the game, the Yugoslav team had better block and more efficient attack, and created the advantage of 24-20 and won the set and the game.

Tomorrow, September 8, the Yugoslav team is playing against French.
