Yugoslavia - Bulgaria 3-1

Katowice, Poland, January 3 - Male volleyball national team of Yugoslavia successfully started at the qualification tournament for Olympic games which are to be held this year in Sydney, defeating in the first match the team of Bulgaria with a score 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 25-16).

Yugoslavia started the match with six players: Nikola and Vladimir Grbic, Mester, Geric, Vujevic and Batez, which easily won the first set in 17 minutes. It was the same in the second set - Yugoslav volleyball players won this part of the match as well. They did it with tough defense play and precise offense announcing the final triumph. The energetic Bulgarians used the relaxation of the Yugoslav team in the third set, but in the fourth set everything settled down and Yugoslavia scored the first victory at the tournament.

In the second round, on January 4th, the Yugoslav team will be playing versus Czech Republic, which was defeated by Dutch team with a score 0:3 in the first round.
