Red Star won the Double

Red Star won the double

Triumphing over Sartid from Smederevo, Red Star, after five years, won the Yugoslav Football Championship and the Double for the seventh time.

Red Star reached its 21st triumph in Yugoslav Championship after the impressive series of 16 victories in a row, by which it reached and surpassed its title competitors Partizan and Obilic.

In front of about 35,000 spectators, the new champion led against energetic players from Smederevo already in the eight minute, when Mihajlo Pjanovic scored a goal. The same player, with his 22nd goal in the Championship made the final score in 68th minute.

Red Star plays Sartid for the title

After they defeated Mogren 2-0 in Budva, Red Star players have the chance of winning the title of the Yugoslav Football Champion in the following round match in which they will play Sartid in Belgrade. Partizan, which is lagging 4 points behind the Championship leader, has defeated Spartak 7-2 and set a new record of 108 goals in the season, 5 more than to date record held by the same team. With his latest 3 goals, Partizan striker Mateja Kezman has most probably ensured the title of the best scorer of the Championship.

Pjanovic secures Red Star champion's title?

Red Star Belgrade beat third-placed Obilic Belgrade 2-0 and virtually clinched the Yugoslav title on Saturday after arch rivals Partizan Belgrade were held 1-1 at Radnicki Kragujevac.

Mihajlo Pjanovic scored both goals for Red Star who three rounds before the end of the championship have 96 points from 37 matches, four more than Partizan.

Partizan played a thriller against Radnicki. Zoran Radosavljevic scored from a free kick seven minutes before time for the home side but Partizan salvaged a point four minutes later with a goal by league topscorer Mateja Kezman.
