Yugoslavia in a more difficult group

May 14th - By drawing lot, it was decided that Yugoslav men's water polo team would play in group "B" in the Olympic games tournament in Sidney, together with the representations of the Netherlands, USA, Greece, Croatia and Hungary.
In group "A" will play Kazakhstan, Slovakia, Australia, Russia, Italy and Spain.
Judging by the renown and quality of the representations, group "B", where Yugoslavia is, is stronger than group "A". Hungarians are the current European champions, they have won 6 Olympic gold medals so far, and they were champions of the world once and European champions 12 times.
Croatia won the second place in Olympic games in Atlanta in 1996 as well as in the European championship last year. The United States had very strong team in the 80s when they won the silver medal twice in Olympic games (in 1984 in Los Angeles and in 1988 in Seoul).
Olympic games tournament in Sidney Yugoslavia representation starts with a match against the Netherlands second one with the US, then they play with Greece, Croatia, and finally in the last, sixth round, the opposing team is Hungary.
