By goals from Fernando Morientes, England's Steve McManaman and Raul, Real Madrid outclassed Valencia 3-0 to win the European Cup for the eighth time in their history at the Stade de France in the Champions League final.
With the victory of Real, Spain became equal with Italy and England regarding the number of the European Champion titles (9).
Yugoslav international Miroslav Djukic played for Valensia, while Perica Ognjenovic could not find room even on the Real bench with the substitutions.

After it had won the Euroleague trophy, Athens Panathinaikos achieved another success. By defeating PAOK with 3-0 in games in the Greek basketball play-off finals, the team of the Yugoslav coach Zeljko Obradovic has defended the title won the previous season.
"Greens" cruised throughout the playoffs, losing just one game and sweeping PAOK with an average margin of 16.6 points in the finals.
Already in the middle of the second part of the third final game, home team Panathinaikos led PAOK with 16 points. It was clear that the trophy would not change its owner. The final result was 76-63 (38-35). Some 18,000 fans tumultuously welcomed the triumph of the Athens team.
"It is a real pleasure playing in front of such an audience. In two years I have won three trophies with Panathinaikos, it is almost certain that I am going to stay and try to win all three cups in the same year with the 'players in green' ", stressed Dejan Bodiroga, best player of the Greek champion.
Grbic brothers - five trophies

Vladimir Grbic, volleyball player of Piaggio Roma team, is the first Yugoslav to win the Italian Championship. In the third game of the play-off finals his team has defeated Casa Modena Unibon 3-2 (18-25, 21-25, 27-25, 25-20, 15-13). This is the second Grbic's trophy of the season, since Piaggio Roma has previously won CEV Cup as well.
His brother Nikola had a more successful season, since he won three trophies with the Italian Sisley Treviso - European Champions Cup, Cup of Italy and Super Cup.
