Yugoslav volleyball players successfully ended the fourth weekend of the competition in the World League, having scored two victories in both matches with Canada.
In the first match between the two national teams which was played in Belgrade Pionir Hall in front of some 5,000 spectators, the Yugoslavs managed to simply "sweep" the Canadians from the field in only 64 minutes with 3-0 in sets (25-16, 25-14, 25-19).
A day after in Novi Sad, some 7,000 spectators witnessed a much more dramatic match. The home team took 1-0 lead in sets but the Canadians managed to level the score. After that came an unprecedented fight in the third set and a 38-36 victory scored with great effort. This set's triumph gave psychological stability to the Yugoslav national team which enabled it score the overall match victory 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 28-36, 25-16).
Yugoslavia will play Argentina next weekend, and in case it wins four new points, it will most probably succeed in qualifying in the final tournament of the World League.
However, frequent injuries in the Yugoslav team represent the gravest danger. Due to the injury, Ivan Miljkovic will have to skip the next weekend match. Andrija Geric injured his ankle in the first match against Canada, but will probably be ready for the matches with Argentina. Despite his injury, Mijic endured all and gave great contribution to significant victories over Canada, but his participation in next matches is questionable.
