Belgrade, November 21 - Dusan Ivkovic and Zeljko Obradovic are no longer coaches of the Yugoslav men's national basketball team.
Speaking at a press conference, president of the Yugoslav Basketball Federation Zelimir Cerovic underscored that the Federation wanted to keep the two successful experts at the head or the national team, but Ivkovic and Obradovic were determined in their decision to leave the Yugoslav team.
He stressed that the main reason for their decision was the adoption of new FIBA competition calendar according to which the European Championship is to be held in September, which is why they cannot coordinate their activities in the national team and their obligations in the clubs.
Cerovic announced the issue of the new experts' team would be solved within some twenty days.
Explaining his decision, Ivkovic said he had been at the head of the national team for long and that it was time he retired.
Obradovic stressed that the sixth place at the Sydney Olympics was not the main reason for his decision to resign and that there was a possibility for him to be the coach of the Yugoslav basketball national team once again some day.
