Belgrade, November 17 - One of the top world tennis players, Jelena Dokic, 17, received her Yugoslav passport in Belgrade on Friday.
Federal Interior Minister Zoran Zivkovic presented the passport
to Dokic at a ceremony in the federal government building.
Zivkovic said he was certain that the return of the young tennis
player to her country marks the start of a new process which means
reliance on young and talented people in all spheres.
Dokic expressed gratitude for the efficiency with which the
problem over the citizenship was resolved and added that during all
the years spent in Australia she and her family had desperately
wanted this document.
"I am Serbian, I was born here and I came here for one reason alone and that is to get this passport,'' Dokic told reporters, holding the document in her hand.
Dokic was quoted Thursday as saying she now wanted to represent Yugoslavia rather than Australia. "I do sincerely wish to play for Yugoslavia.'' Dokic told Belgrade daily Blic.
But asked Friday whether her new passport meant that she would no longer
play for Australia, she said: ``I did not say that. I am playing for Australia.''
