YUGOSLAVIA - Brazil 31-23 (15-12)

Nantes, FRANCE, January 23rd - Yugoslavia's national team made a successful start at the 17th men's handball world championships in Nantes, France, beating Brazil 31-23 (15-12) in a B group 1st round match late Tuesday.

Yugoslav handball players started the World Championship with a victory, but they showed many mistakes, especially in the beginning of the first and in the middle of the second halftime, in a match with, objectively speaking, weaker opponent.

Yugoslavia will play Algeria on Wednesday.

QUOTES

"As it is always the case at all big competitions, first match for every team is difficult. We certainly gave less than we could. It is however, important that we successfully started" (Dragan Skrbic, captain of the Yugoslav national team).

"We were a bit nervous and that contributed to our playing worse than we could at some points. Yet, we managed to consolidate and that is the most important. I am satisfied with the efforts the team gave" (Branislav Pokrajac, coach of the Yugoslav handball national team).
