Zarko Paspalj suffers heart attack

Athens, GREECE, March 6 (telebasket.com/agencies) - Former Yugoslavia's player Zarko Paspalj (35) is in intensive care after having an acute heart attack yesterday evening.

He was playing football, when he felt like fainting and was driven to the hospital, where cardiac arrest was diagnosed. The doctors now believe that he is out of danger but he has to stay in the intensive care for the next 24 to 48 hours before they are absolutely sure of his condition.

His former teammates, Panayotis Fassoulas, Milan Tomic and ex-Yugoslavia coaches Dusan Ivkovic and Zeljko Obradovic visited him.

Paspalj played for Buducnost, Partizan (both from Yugoslavia), San Antonio Spurs (NBA), Panathinaikos, Aris (both from Greece) and Paris Saint Germaine (France).

As a member of the Yugoslav national team, he won gold medal at the World Championship in Argentina (1990), gold medals at the European championships in Zagreb (1989), Rome (1991) and Athens (1995), Olympic silver medals in Seul (1988) and in Atlanta (1996), and bronze medal at the European championships in Athens (1987).
