Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS, May 6 (agencies) - PSV Eindhoven retained their Dutch league title on Sunday when they beat Heerenveen 3-0 to put them beyond the reach of nearest rivals Feyenoord.
PSV's 16th league title in their history came after they
lost their opening tie of the season 2-0 at De Graafschap, and
then went 30 matches unbeaten.
With three games to go, PSV have 74 points and Feyenoord are
second with 59 points.
Both PSV and Heerenveen started the match carefully. It took
until the 33rd minute for PSV to break the deadlock when
Heerenveen winger Mika Nurmela lost possession in defence to
give Arnold Bruggink space to open the scoring.
In the 66th minute, captain Mark van Bommel doubled the
score after he was freed on the right and netted via the far
post.
Four minutes later, the PSV fans began celebrating in
earnest when Dutch leading scorer Yugoslav Mateja Kezman met a Van Bommel cross to score his 23rd goal of the season from close range.
PSV are still hunting a league and cup double. They play
Twente Enschede in the Dutch Cup final on May 24.

Madrid, SPAIN, May 6 (agencies) - Just a week after Oviedo's coach Radomir Antic was forced to make a public apology over his disparaging comments about the quality of his squad, his players responded on the pitch by firing five goals past Athletic Bilbao - 5-0. Yugoslav Veljko Paunovic and Oli both notched impressively-taken doubles, while defender Frederic Danjou made his contribution with a fine header. Real Oviedo jumped five points clear of the drop zone.
