Belgrade, May 11 (Reuters) - Former Yugoslav assistant coach Zoran Filipovic and Partizan Belgrade player Momcilo Vukotic have been appointed to coach the national football team alongside former international Dejan Savicevic.
A three-man commission on Friday elected Filipovic and Vukotic to join Savicevic, one of the commission's members, as the coaching staff for Yugoslavia's next two World Cup qualifying matches away to Russia and The Faroe Islands.
The trio replace Milovan Djoric who was sacked as manager on Monday.
Former Red Star Belgrade striker Filipovic was the national team's assistant coach for the Euro 2000 finals while Vukotic starred for Partizan Belgrade in the 1980s before taking up a coaching job in Cyprus.
Savicevic said he was convinced Yugoslavia could qualify for the World Cup finals after his aides on the bench were named.
"I am optimistic and I wouldn't have taken up this job if I thought we couldn't qualify for the next year's World Cup finals in Korea and Japan," he told reporters.
"We will name the squad for the Russia and Faroe Islands games on May 27 but it's too early to tell who we will rely on.
Savicevic quit the international scene after Yugoslavia qualified for the Euro 2000 finals but still plays club football for Rapid Vienna.
Djoric was axed earlier this week after Yugoslavia picked up only two points from their last three qualifying matches - leaving them fourth in their group with five points from four matches.
