Scotland, June 16 (uefa.com) - UEFA club competition debutants FK Sartid gave themselves a superb opportunity of advancing into the next round of the UEFA Intertoto Cup after frustrating Dundee at Dens Park to record a scoreless draw.
The Yugoslav side, who qualified for the competition after securing fourth
place in their domestic first division in just their third year in the top flight,
will be delighted with the result
especially as their goalkeeper, Nenad
Lukic, had little to do during the 90
minutes.
Sartid proved the quicker to settle
and had their best chance of the
game when Goran Bogdanovic was clear on goal in the 13th
minute from Nenad Mircasavijevic's pass, but the
experienced midfielder scuffed his shot without testing
goalkeeper Jamie Langfield.
Dundee, who were playing their first European fixture since
a 1974/75 UEFA Cup First Round tie against RWD
Molenbeek, failed to dominate their opponents and though
they did show more imagination in the final third of the field,
their coach Ivano Bonetti will be disappointed that they did
not register one effort on target during the opening 45
minutes although Javier Artero came close on the quarter
hour but his lob was over the goal.
During a more lively second 45 minutes, the hosts came
closest when Alessandro Romano curled a first-half
free-kick just over the crossbar and Chris Coyne headed
Romano's corner wide from an unmarked position at the
back post after 62 minutes. Dundee were then almost
rewarded for their attacking efforts when substitute Fabian
Caballero had a shot on goal after good work from fellow
substitute Steven Milne, but the Argentine fired the ball
wide.
