Augsburg, GERMANY, July 1 (uefa.com) - Martin Max scored twice as TSV 1860 München took a giant step towards Intertoto Cup progress with a 3-1 win
over Yugoslav side FK Sartid in the first leg of their
second-round clash at the Rosenaustadion in Augsburg.
TSV coach Werner Lorant fielded a strong side for the
game; former Germany international Thomas Hässler ran the
midfield alongside new signings Michael Wiesinger and
Didier Dheedene.
The home side upped the pressure after a quiet 15 minutes
and took the lead four minutes later. Daniel Borimirov, who
had just replaced the injured Wiesinger, raced down the
right and crossed for Max, who headed in from close range.
Sartid nearly equalised two minutes later but Dragan
Glogovac's header from a Vladimir Mudrinic cross narrowly
missed the target.
Borimirov continued to cause havoc down the right but the
TSV forwards, Max and Markus Schroth, failed to
capitalise. Sartid again went close after half an hour when
Mudrinic put Glogovac through but he saw his effort
thwarted by the on-rushing TSV keeper Simon Jentzsch.
TSV kept their advantage until half-time and were
determined to add to the tally in the second half. Sartid,
impressive with their tidy passing, still threatened on the
counter-attack but they went two down on the hour mark.
This time Max benefited from a mistake by Milorad Mrdak
to race clear of Sartid keeper Nenad Lukic and score.
The game appeared to be over after 66 minutes when the
Lions scored their third goal through Vidar Riseeth following
a Hässler corner, but Sartid gave themselves a fighting
chance for the return leg when they scored a minute later.
Sartid midfielder Boris Vaskovic found himself with space in
the TSV area and scored from 10 metres. Mudrinic and
Milorad Zecevic both tested Jentzsch in the closing stages
but were unable to reduce the arrears.
