Podgorica, YUGOSLAVIA, July 18 - After Bogdan Tanjevic left Podgorica and joined French club Asvel Villeurbanne, the most interesting story in Yugoslav basketball was who would be Buducnost's new coach?
According to some sources that are close to Buducnost, club management wanted Dusan Ivkovic. The other candidates were ex-Split coach Jasmin Repesa, ex-Lovcen coach Miodrag Kadija and Dejan Radonjic, Buducnost's point guard.
It was obvious that the chance to sign Ivkovic was small, but the other options were more than possible. The sensational news was finally announced last night - the new coach of Buducnost is an ex-member of Jugoplastika Split, but he isn't Repesa. The new coach of Buducnost is a point guard, but he isn't Dejan Radonjic.
The new coach of Buducnost is Zoran Sretenovic who played the last two seasons in Stal Ostrow, a team in the Polish premier division. Sretenovic was the playmaker of Jugoplastika Split when this team became European champion. He was also a member of the Yugoslav national team and played for Red Star, Partizan, Borovica and Radnicki.
Sretenovic agreed to a reported three-year contract.
"It is a great challenge for me and it is the main reason why I decided to finish my playing career. I feel that I am ready for this job," said Sretenovic after he signed the contract.
