Belgrade, YUGOSLAVIA, August 15 - Yugoslav national team secured its chances to qulaify for the 2002 World Cup finals with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Faroe Islands. The result leaves Yugoslavia with 12 points from 7 matches.
Home team suffered a blow before the game when Lazio star Dejan Stankovic was ruled out after reporting to the stadium with a fever.
Yugoslavia played with three attackers, but though Savo Milosevic, Predrag Mijatovic and Mateja Kezman all looked dangerous, they couldn't break down the stern Faroes' defence.
Sinisa Mihajlovic opened the scoring on 25 minutes with his trademark free-kick after Mijatovic was fouled.
Yugoslavia had to wait until the 86th minute for the clincher. Mihajlovic again played a part, with his corner headed home by Miroslav Djukic.
