The Yugoslav championship got off to a surprising start as pre-season favourites Red Star and Partizan stuttered to opening day draws.
Reigning champions Red Star kicked off on Friday and were held to a 1-1 draw by newly-promoted Mladost Apatin. Partizan also slipped up, drawing 2-2 at Radnicki Kragujevac.
