Bajic (right, PARTIZAN) struggles for the ball with Wagner

Belgrade, September 20 - The Yugoslav hosts were indebted to a last minute winner to come away with victory from this UEFA Cup first round first-leg tie against an Austrian team now coached by German legend Lothar Matthaus.

Despite the lack of goals, the game was full of chances, with both sides guilty of wayward finishing.

It took Branimir Bajic, a defender, to break the deadlock in the dying moments when he headed home Zvonomir Vujic's corner.

Kyiv, UKRAINE, September 20 (DSA) - The game between Ukrainian Cup runners-up CSKA Kiev - who now are in next-to-last place in their domestic league table - and Yugoslavian champions Red Star, who now are seeming to go through hard times as well, proved to be really fascinating and spectacular.

In the 35th minute, Mihajlo Pjanovic was put through to the date with CSKA goalkeeper Vyacheslav Kernozenko and left no chance to him, kicking the ball into far corner.

Just before the break Sergiy Tkachenko leveled with well-executed shot into the lower corner after a free kick was cleverly played out.

Ruslan Kostyshyn made to 2-1 for CSKA four minutes into the second half, converting a one -on-one run to the goal following a nice overhead pass from Georgian midfielder Levan Mikadze.

Sergiy Zakarlyuka extended the advantage in the 66th minute with a brilliant shot into top corner from 20 meters. But the guests, after conceding the third goal, hit back immediately. Andriy Kyrlyk played the ball with his hand in the area and Milenko Acimovic converted a penalty.

CSKA managed to retain the positive result, playing against their much more experienced rivals, and the result keeps their hopes alive to pass successfully through the difficult second leg of the tie in Belgrade.
