Belgrade, January 7 (AFP) - Much-travelled Bora Milutinovic, the Serb who has led China to their first World Cup finals, denied Monday he would take over the Yugoslav national squad, Tanjug news agency reported.
"I had no contacts with Yugoslav Football union (FSJ), so all reports that I would take over the national squad are unfounded," Milutinovic told Tanjug.
Milutinovic insisted that the "new forces" in the FSJ would "be able to find the best solution for Yugoslav football."
Yugoslavia's football scene has been in a disarray in recent months, as the national team failed to qualify for the World Cup finals, sending their world ranking plummeting from 13th in January to 20th by December.
But Milutinovic said that the "young lions" now heading the Yugoslav game - new FSJ chief and famous striker Dragan Stojkovic and interim national coach Dejan Savicevic - would be able to ring the changes.
"They are young, have strong motives and enough experience and authority to return the squad back to the top of European and world football," Milutinovic said.
He added that he had "no plans" after seeing the Chinese through this summer's World Cup.
"However, I intend to spend more time at home in Mexico with my daughter Darinka," he said.
Since 1986, Milutinovic has coached Mexico, Costa Rica, the United States and Nigeria to the World Cup finals.
