Paris, FRANCE, February 10 (agencies) - Venus Williams claimed her second title of 2002 when Jelena Dokic withdrew from Sunday's final of the Gaz de France tournament with a strained right thigh.
It's the 23rd WTA Tour title of Williams' career.
The fourth-seeded Dokic was injured during her 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Monica Seles in a semifinal Saturday.
"Dokic had an MRI examination Sunday morning for this injury, and it was determined that she could not play her final today," the WTA Tour said.
Dokic also pulled out of the doubles tournament at the Proximus Diamond Games in Antwerp, starting Monday. The injury will be evaluated again to determine whether Dokic will play singles there.
Having advanced to the single final in Paris, Dokic reached the WTA's 6th place, which is her highest ranking.
