Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL, August 14 (fivb.ch) - Yugoslavia demolished France in straight sets to score a place in the semifinals of the World League. Reigning Olympic and European champions wasted no time in surging ahead I the opening set and deadly spikes by Boskan and a perfect impenetrable block gave them an immediate 5-point lead. Luc Marquet delivered two points to the French and high-flying Laurent Capet another, but the spirited French were no match for the might of the Yugoslavs. They won the first set 25-19, well supported by their star performers like Nikola Grbic and Ivan Miljkovic.
But the French had nothing to lose and took a cheeky, but brief 9-8 lead in the second. The two sides then
shadowboxed through the points but Yugoslavia was just too good, too often, closing the match 3-0 (25-19,
25-20, 25-17)
In the third set, France's Philippe Barca-Cysique was carried off the court with an ankle injury.
