New York, USA, August 28 (AP) - Fifth-seeded Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia was eliminated from the U.S. Open, falling to Elena Bovina of Russia 6-3, 6-2.
Dokic, the No. 4-ranked player in the world, on Monday won her first match since a leg injury forced her out of a tournament in Montreal, beating Greta Arn of Germany in the first round. Last week, she pulled out of the Pilot Pen in New Haven, Connecticut.
The unseeded Bovina beat Clarisa Fernandez of Argentina 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6) in the first round.
Dokic, who has won two tournaments this year, has never gotten past the fourth round at the U.S. Open. She made it that far in each of the last two years.
In majors this year, Dokic advanced to the quarterfinals at the French Open and reached the fourth round at Wimbledon. She didn't play at the year's first Grand Slam, the Australian Open.
