Salta, ARGENTINA, October 6 (fivb.ch) - Yugoslavia overpowered USA in an exciting match during the last day of the second round pool K of the 2002
Men's World Championship. The Olympic and European Champion took their sixth straight victory and is still
undefeated. The Americans had to win the match in order to book the ticket for the quarterfinals. They tried
and fought for every point, but the opponent was too good. Due to this result, Greece finished second in this
group behind the stars of Yugoslavia.
In the first set Yugoslavia played very effective. The Yugoslavian setter Nikola Grbic (three points) was able to
set the balls to all spikers without any problems. The best scorers were the American William Priddy (five
points) and the Yugoslavian Goran Vujevic (three points).
In the second set Yugoslavia faced an American team who were fighting hard for the classification, but their
experience and strength took them to win the set. The best scorer was Ivan Miljkovic (seven points).
In the third set Yugoslavia made some unforced errors, which helped the Americans to improve and USA won
the set. The best scorers were Vladimir Grbic (five points) and Adam Naeve (four points).
In a thrilling fourth set, Yugoslavia showed all its power and defeated the fighters of USA.
The best scorer of the match was Ivan Miljkovic (19 points). He said- "The last set was the most difficult and
the most important. We thank all the people from Salta for their support."
