Los Angeles, USA, November 9 (agencies) - The best Yugoslav female tennis player Jelena Dokic was defeated 6-7, 0-6 by world number one Serena Williams in the quarterfinals of the $3 million WTA Championships in Los Angeles.

It was Williams's third win in as many meetings with Dokic, who has yet to take a set from the 21-year-old American.

Dokic attributed her second-set collapse to a sprained right ankle she said she injured during her first practice after arriving in LA.

"I wasn't even sure I was going to play," said Dokic. "I was hurting a little bit more in the second set.

"I was good enough to play maybe a set or two but against Serena you have to be 100 percent, which I wasn't.

"I can't even feel it right now."
