London, ENGLAND, March 5 (Reuters) - England will face Serbia and Montenegro in a friendly international at Leicester City's
Walkers Stadium on June 3, the Football Association
says.
Both teams will use the match as part of their
preparations for European championship qualifiers later
in June.
Yugoslavia was renamed Serbia and Montenegro last
month. The last time England played Yugoslavia was in
1989 at Wembley when England won 2-1.
England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said on
Wednesday the technical ability of the Serbia and
Montenegro players would provide a useful test.
"This team is technically very adept," Eriksson told the
FA's official website.
"They have some skilled individuals and will cause us
specific problems.
"With their style of play, they will be ideal opponents for
us as we prepare for our own European qualification
match at home to Slovakia the following week (June
11)."
The game at Leicester, which will kick off at 7:00 p.m.,
will mark the first occasion that the first division club will
have hosted a senior international match.
The FA has adopted a policy of rotating home England
fixtures around various club grounds since the decision
to redevelop the national stadium at Wembley in 2000.
The new Walkers Stadium, opened for the start of this
season, has an all-seater capacity of 32,500 and the
staging of the game there will provided some welcome
revenue to promotion-chasing Leicester.
