Players of Sartid raise the trophy after beating Red Star |
Belgrade, May 29, 2003 - A spectacular golden goal from Marko Pantelic earned FK Sartid a shock 1-0 victory against Red Star in the Serbia-Montenegro football Cup final in Belgrade on Thursday.
The goal from the second-half substitute secured Sartid's first trophy since they were formed on 6 May 1924. Red Star lost for just the seventh time in 26 final appearances to end a season trophyless for the first time in five years.
Red Star dominated for long periods but missed several good chances. Midfield players Branko Boskovic and Dejan Milovanovic were both denied by Sartid's international goalkeeper Dragan Zilic, who was in superb form and later named man of the match.
In extra time the 24-year-old striker Pantelic, who had come off the bench in the 81st minute, curled a shot into the net, via the underside of the crossbar, from 18 metres.
