Belgrade, July 10 - Ilija Petkovic was named as Serbia-Montenegro's new
national football team manager to replace Dejan Savicevic.
Country's football federation chief Dragan Stojkovic announced the appointment of
58-year-old Petkovic, who was assistant to Slobodan Santrac for
two years in Yugoslavia's 1998 World Cup campaign. From July 2000 to January 2001, he coached national team. As a coach he also worked in Japan and China.
As a player he won 43 caps and scored six goals for the national
team between 1968 and 1974.
Petkovic is expected to coach Serbia and Montenegro till the end of the 2004 European championship qualifications.
