Barcelona, SPAIN, July 16 (fina.org) - The European champions repelled the Australian challenge by a single goal. Vladimir Vujasinovic scored from the top after the first minute. It was nearly four minutes later that Aussie Sharks skipper Nathan Thomas equalised on counter-attack. Scoring machine Aleksandar Sapic scored on extra for 2-1. The only score of the second period was former Ukrainian Aleksandr Osadchuk scoring from the penalty line. Danilo Ikodinovic opened the third on counter but less than 30 seconds later Osadchuk scored a second penalty goal for 3-3. Slobodan Nikic on extra and Dejan Savic with a goal deflected off an Australian defender had the Serbs 5-3 up after three quarters. Osadchuk swam up and converted an amazing third penalty goal but Ikodinovic converted on double extra. To the surprise of all, Osadchuk received a fourth penalty attempt but had it blocked. Two extra goals to Australia tied the game by 3:07 but the result came at 2:40 when Vanja Udovicic shot unguarded from the top.
