Koper, SLOVENIA, January 22, 2004 (euro2004.si) - Serbia and Montenegro deservedly won the match against the current World and European vice-champions Germany with a 2 goal difference. They managed to keep the advantage gained in the first period. Although Serbia and Montenegro had a high lead in the second period, they lost most of it.
The players of Serbia and Montenegro played well during the first period and took a deserved 2 goal difference. There was a slight crisis half way through the period when Germany got a 1 goal advantage. The rest of the time it was the players of Coach Veselin Vujovic who were in front. Dejan Peric, the goalkeeper who plays for Celje Pivovarna Lasko, showed excellent form with 9 saves in the first 30 minutes of the game. He again proved that he's one of the best keepers in the world. The players of Serbia and Montenegro were going mainly for the breaks in the 6:0 German defense and less for the shots from a distance. The Germans had more trouble when it came to breaking their opponent's defense.
Dejan Peric again shone in the second half and his team managed to take a 7 goal advantage half way through the period. The excellent defense and effective offense proved too good for Heiner Brand's players. However, it seemed that the players of Serbia and Montenegro were too hasty in celebrating their victory, so that the persistent Germans managed to lessen the advantage in the final minutes of the game. But the excellent keeper Peric who made 15 saves throughout the game ended all of Germany's hopes for a comeback when he returned to finish the match.
