Jena University to award Zoran Djindjic posthumously

Berlin, Feb 5, 2004 - The Friedrich Schiller University from Jena, Germany, has decided to give its biannual award posthumously to late Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic. The award is given every second year to distinguished individuals from around the world for contributions to international understanding and promotion of human and civil rights.

The handover ceremony will take place on April 16, with a German social-democrat Hans Koschnik, who was once the EU administrator in Mostar, scheduled to give a speech on Zoran Djindjic. The award will be handed over in front of a gathering that will include top German officials.

The funds that go with the award will be used for the publishing of a bilingual, Serbian and German, collection of writings about Zoran Djindjic. A number of distinguished Serbian and German politicians, scientists, and intellectuals have already confirmed they will contribute.
