Belgrade, Feb 27, 2004 - Members of the Serbian parliament on Thursday adopted the Law on ministries, which was a precondition for the formation of the new Serbian government, which will now have 17 ministries instead of the previous 19.

The Serbian government will be composed of the ministries of interior; finances; justice; public administration and local self-government; agriculture, forestry and water management; economy; energy and mining; capital investment; trade, tourism and services; international economic relations; labour, employment and social affairs; science and environmental protection; education and sport; culture; health; religion, and diaspora.

The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications and the Ministry of Urban Planning and Construction will be joined in the Ministry of Capital Investment.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection will be abolished, and the new one, the Ministry for Diaspora, will be established.

The Law on ministries will come into effect one day after it has been published in the Official Herald of the Republic of Serbia.

The adoption of this law wrapped up the fourth extraordinary session of the new Serbian parliament.
