    1900

First sugar factory in Serbia was opened. It was built in Cukarica District because of big water consumption and the proximity of the railway.

“Grand” hotel was opened. This was the first building with the facade in secession style. It was located in Cika Ljubina Street and demolished in 1968.

State Archive of Serbia was opened. The first manager was the historian Mihailo Gavrilovic.
 

1901

First issue of Serbian literature magazine was published on February 1st 1901. The first editor in chief was Bogdan Popovic, one of the most eminent literature critics and theoreticians of that time.
 

1902

Art school, later called School for Arts and Crafts, found by Mrs. Beta Vukanovic was opened.
 

1903

The Main Workers’ Council (precursor of the syndicate union) was found. This Council gathered all syndicate organizations in Belgrade 

The first automobile appeared in the streets on April 3rd 1903. The automobile was imported by Bosko Radulovic. It was Neseldorf type, and was introduced by the driver employed at the firm. He had an obligation to teach a couple of citizens of Belgrade how to use the vehicle.

On April 20th 1903, Mladen Ljubinkovic from Belgrade passed the driver’s exam on Marel-Union car and that made him the first holder of the driving license in the city.

On December 20th 1903, a first Serbian opera was played - “Early rising” - composed by Stanislav Binicki, script by Branislav Nusic.

The Belgrade Museum, named the Municipality Museum, was found in 1903.
 

1904

First Yugoslav music exhibition was held on the occasion of the first Serbian rebellion and crowning of king Peter I Karadjordjevic

The “Politika” newspaper was found. The first editors in chief and founders were brothers Darko and Vladimir Ribnikar.
 

1905

Works on drainage system started and were completed in 1911. It was done on a line of Gavrila Principa Street, Kneza Milosa Street and Cara Dusana Street.

In 1905, Belgrade University was found. At the beginning there were 778 students - 675 full-time students and 103 part-time students. There were 16 full-time professors and 18 part-time professors working there.

On November 20th 1905, the first long distance call Belgrade-Budapest was carried out. It was done through the manual duct and mediation of the operator.
 

1906

The first cinema in town was opened in Hajduk Veljko barroom. The barroom was situated in 5 Knez Mihailova Street.

First demonstrations, in which 446 channel workers took part, were held on March 31st 1906. 
 

1907

First modern warehouse - Goods magazine - was built. It was situated in 16 Kralja Petra I street.

In 1907, King Petar I Karadjordjevic laid a foundation for new Assembly building. The building was finished in 1936.
 

1908

The first athletic and wrestling union “Dusan the Great” was found in Belgrade. Several other unions originated from this one - wrestling, boxing, fencing, weightlifting etc. It had a great influence on development of the sport in Belgrade.

On August 30th 1908, a first repertoire cinema “Paris” was opened. Svetozar Botoric, one of the most eminent movie-theater owners, found it. The citizens of Belgrade had a chance to watch the most popular movies only ten days after the world premiere.
 

1909

The first opera in Belgrade was opened in premises of the “Boulevard” hotel (the building on the left). That made the hotel change its name into “Opera”.

In 1909, the first motorcycle race was organized by the First bicycle union. The race was held on route Nis - Belgrade.
